~I Am A Slut

Until several days ago it used to be that being thought a slut was a bad thing:

slut (sl t). n. 1. a. A person, especially a woman, considered sexually promiscuous. b. A woman prostitute. 2. A slovenly woman; a slattern.

However, apparently these days being a slut, at least according to a radio blowhard, means a woman (and presumably a man?) who believes her health needs, including contraception should be required to be covered by insurance companies makes her a slut.

So fine.

I am a slut because I believe that it's none of my fuckin' business if a woman feels that she would like to avoid becoming pregnant.

I am a slut because I believe that it's fiscally sound to invest $20 per month to cover a woman remaining child free, as is her choice to do so, rather than $3,380 per year to cover a child's healthcare coverage from birth to age 26.  (<- one way or another we all pay for all healthcare needs)

I am a slut because I believe preventing unwanted pregnancies is a better alternative to abortions.

I am a slut because I believe preventing unwanted pregnancies is a better alternative to unwanted children being born to a mother/parents and raised by people who are are not emotionally, financially, or for any reason not desirous or prepared to be a good parent.

I am a slut because I believe it's extremely hypocritical for insurance companies to cover male oriented sexual meds and treatments such as Viagra, but to find it discretionary to cover birth control for women.

I am a slut not because I think *you* should take contraception, but because I think that my feelings on the matter should dictate how I live my life, not how *you* manage yours.

I am a slut because I believe that an employers business is their business, not the workings of my lady bidness.  That should be between me and my doctor and my conscience.

I am a slut because I don't think that where I work should dictate what healthcare I have coverage for, subscribing to any other notion means that an employee who works for, let's say a company run by Jehovah Witnesses' should/would be required to rely on prayer to treat cancer, mental illness and scabies.

There was a time it would have been embarrassing to be a slut.  As of today, with it's new meaning, it's a term I'm proud to be.

I am a slut.
